I guess a new software emulation, but one that emulates the Emotion Engine? In summary: Supposed new shiny black magic PS2 emulation on PS3. Interestingly enough, I've heard rumor that Sony is working on a new way to run PS2 games on PS3. I'd even heard talk for a while that Sony was going to start releasing PS2 ISOs online through PSN (similar to Xbox Originals, and pretty much exactly what you proposed) but I guess that died in the face once PS2 backwards compatibility was ditched. Now that said, tis otherwise a great idea. Not just due to lag, but technical problems that existed between Accent Core and the method of Software emulation they were using. -Ģ.) In regards to Accent Core on the software emulation (the 80 gig model) I myself had heard that it was flat out unplayable. It's pretty terrible, and the single biggest reason I refuse to support Sony with PS3. I say this because new models shipped don't even have the software emulation.
PS3 backwards compatibility is at an all time low as far as I'm aware. This is the 4th edition under the XX banner and allows players to once. So perhaps they could use the ISO? Even if it worked this does not solve the issue for the 360 or the PC (auto runs as a PS2 emulator? I don't know these things.), or the fact that they would have to add net play. Now I don't really know much about PS3, but nowadays isn't it pretty PS2 backwards compatible? I just did some research and it sounds like Accent Core works on the 80 gig model (although some people talk of some hick-ups on start-up but after which it seems to run fine). EdgeKun mentioned how in BF's case they were able to just directly copy the ISO and go about it that way.
